What's Living In Tampines Like?

The third largest new town in Singapore, Tampines is a hippy estate resulting from well-thought out urban planning in the Eastern region of Singapore.

The name “Tampines” was derived from the name of the indigenous Ironwood (or “tempinis) trees that used to grow abundantly in the area. Back then, Tampines was well-known for her forests, swamps, rubber plantations, and sand quarries.

In line with Singapore’s policy of creating self-sufficient towns to alleviate congestion in the city center, Tampines is one of four regional centers in Singapore serving the commercial needs of residents in Tampines and the rest of the Eastern region.

Ladies (ok, not to be biased…men too), all of you are going to be happy with this place!

Tampines is a shopping paradise thanks to three main shopping malls – Tampines Mall, Century Square, and Tampines 1 – that consist of supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, jewelry stores, and more.

For foodies, good food are in abundance at these malls, and if you’re craving some local flavors, Tampines Round Market & Food Centre (which is just beside Treasure at Tampines condo) is where you need to go. The large market offers fresh produce as well as abundant food stalls to choose from for a hearty and economical meal.

Eat and work out!

There are a range of fitness facilities available for residents to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Tampines Sports Centre contains a variety of facilities including dance studios, several swimming pools, and a large ClubFITT gym.

You’ll also be able to find a few private gyms in the area, including Anytime Fitness, a 24/7 facility, as well as Fitness First franchises. Pockets of green have been integrated into the neighborhood as well, with Tampines Central Park, Sun Plaza Park and Tampines Eco Green offering small peaceful havens for nature seekers and even bird watchers.

This is important for parents with young children.

Many good primary schools are available in the area.

As your children progress to secondary, JC/Polytechnic, you will find world-class education here, including an international school.

Tampines is truly a place worth exploring for families. The neighborhood is primarily made up of local families and friendly to senior citizens

The residents’ basic needs are well-served by the town center.

A trip into the City is super convenient from Tampines MRT station and multiple bus lines. Time to the City is typically less than 25 minutes.

Tampines is bordered on the north by Pasir Ris, on the east by Flora Drive and Changi, on the south by Simei and Bedok Reservoir, and on the west by Paya Lebar Air Base.
